In today’s Britain a chain of crime, punishment, release and reoffending wastes lives, costs the country billions and pushes a stretched prison system beyond breaking point. That chain of despair can be broken – this series of three one-hour films shows how.
We meet inspired individuals, enlightened businesses, determined activists and ex-offenders themselves who are working to break the chain.
In the above clip we meet some of the ex-offenders whose lives have been changed by people deciding to give them a second chance.
We will also meet some who's second chances are cruelly whipped away by a system no longer designed with rehabilitation in mind.
We will see the work of the Hackney Boxing Academy - working with troubled youngsters before they get caught up in the gangs, XO Bikes - teaching ex-cons to be bike mechanics so they can get a job and with the Longford Trust who help prisoners get further education whilst inside to improve their chances on the outside.
We meet inspirational leaders and thinkers like Sir Brian Leveson, and Idris Elba intent on Breaking the Chain.
